UNNERVED 2020 – On Going

UNNERVED was developed through the fEEL Lab Fellowship at the University of New South Wales. Drawing on neuroscience research, the work visualizes the body’s stress responses—mapping anxiety as color, motion, and sound. Through moving image and immersive projection, UNNERVED translates invisible states of the nervous system into shared sensory experiences. Audiences were invited to reflect on their own embodied responses, with many recognizing their experiences mirrored in the work. Presented at Federation Square in Melbourne, the project highlights how art can render scientific knowledge affective, fostering empathy and awareness of mental health as a collective issue. Through this research, a series of works were created which, in addition to the public art installation, include animations and works on paper.

NY Laser program Interview

This NY LASER program brings together artists Anita Glesta, Barbara London, and Carlton Newton for a conversation at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Glesta will share research and animations exploring the embodied experience of anxiety, London will discuss her groundbreaking work in video and sound art, and Newton will reflect on his practice informed by natural processes and scientific inquiry. Together, their presentations foster dialogue on the ways creative practice deepens our understanding of complex human and natural systems.

HEART SERIES 2018

My experience with heartbreak syndrome, a stress- induced cardiac event, revealed how profoundly trauma imprints on the body itself. This personal encounter became the foundation for UNNERVED, where I transformed the hidden processes of the nervous system into immersive animation, bridging personal experience with scientific research.
